CompTIA PDI+
Individuals who obtain a CompTIA’s PDI+ certification, it confirms that they have hands-on experience or fundamental knowledge of working with printing and document imaging devices. It is an entry-level certification. If candidates complete Printing and Document Imaging (PDI +) certification, it validates technicians grasp of fundamental electromechanical components and tools, color theory and connectivity/networking, print engine and scan processes and components.
The course also certifies the individual’s ability to install and maintain scanners, copiers, printers, fax machines, and other devices. This certification also covers other aspects, such as professionalism, effective communication skills, application of safety mechanisms, providing management tools, and environmental issues.
The PDI+ certification program has eight domains. The first domain is the Print Engine Process and Components, the second one is Scan Process and Components, General Troubleshooting is the third domain, the fourth domain is Basic Electromechanical Components and Tools, connectivity is the fifth domain, Color Theory, Professionalism and Communication, and Safety and Environment, are the sixth, seventh, and eight domains, respectively.
Job Responsibilities
- After passing the PDI+ exam successfully, the candidates will be able to do the following:
- Will be able to recognize the basic printer types and color models.
- Know the basic concepts of electromechanics.
- Find out the basic technologies used in inkjet printers.
- Distinguish the basic technologies used in Laser/LED printers.
- Identify the basic technologies employed in scanners.
- Connect scanners/printers to systems and install their drivers.
- Detect and employ proper inkjet and laser printer consumables.
- Know the network communication technologies needed to connect a scanner, printer or any other multifunctional devices (MFDs).
- Will be able to connect printers and scanners to a network, fix scanners and printers, safeguard work environment, and communicate professionally with customers.
- As PDI+ certified develop skills to service and support multi-functional devices (MFDs), printers, scanners, etc., they would be crucial to the IT industry as their makers, such as HP, Canon, Brother, and Sharp Electronics, are well entrenched in the field of IT.
- In addition, familiarity with computers and their devices, particularly to troubleshoot them, or to use them for analytical purposes, is important for the IT industry.
Prospects for CompTIA PDI+ Certificate Holders
After obtaining PDI+ certification, candidates can work as systems administrators, PDI engineers, PDI systems administrators, PDI technicians, PDI administrators, etc., if they have at least a high school diploma as well.
